The Best Place To Live

July 26, 2008 By: admin Category: better future, home improvement, useful information No Comments →

While it’s fine to dream of that perfect retirement community or place to raise your children, there are many factors which may be important to you, yet will never appear on the list of desirables. Choosing your best place to live is a bit more complex than these lists can represent. It’s up to you to do some research to find the community and region that is perfect for your situation.

Every year, consumer groups survey the U.S., measuring certain criteria that average people find desirable in their community. These groups select cities and towns that profile resources and characteristics that meet our wish lists, from safety to cultural attractions. Communities which are found to be outstanding from a number of perspectives are the ones that make the A-list.

When searching for your best place to live, a good starting point is choosing between an urban or rural community. Are you the country dwelling types, who enjoy the great outdoors? Do you want plenty of cultural events only found in the metropolitan areas? How about your kids? Will they be able to fulfill their educational goals close to home, while still having a social context that is exciting enough? You need to think about sources of income too. Housing prices figure prominently in your plans.

For example, let’s say your family consists of you, your husband and two teenage kids. Your husband is an engineer and you’re a stay-at-home Mom. The kids will be heading off to college soon and your husband plans to be in the work force for another ten years. You want to relocate to maximize your options. Your objectives need to satisfy the kid’s education goals, a certain level of income and latitude in your plans for retirement. You want to find affordable housing in a safe community with resources sufficient to keep the kids close by and happy with what that community has to offer in ways of entertainment. Your best place to live, for your particular situation, may never make the lists.

Finding your perfect, best place to live requires lots of flexibility in your plans. Satisfy your immediate, short term objectives as best you can, while financing your long term plans with savings you’ll invest down the road. Your best place to live today may well change ten years from now. The key to successful transitions is good planning.

If you add up all of the factors which play into your personal best place to live, you may find that another move is in your future. Your life in retirement might mean the kids have grown up and married and your priorities have changed. Today’s mobile society allows for such adjustments. It may be better for you to have this decade’s best place to live be followed by another, best suited to your changed circumstances.

How To Improve Gas Mileage

July 24, 2008 By: admin Category: better future No Comments →

Your fuel mileage probably has more to do with your driving than almost any other single factor. Don’t get me wrong – buying a more fuel-efficient car will help. Even so, you wouldn’t believe what a little bit of defensive driving can do. I had thought that my car was going downhill. My gas mileage was in the low 20s, much lower than it had been when I had first bought the vehicle. I knew a few tricks for how to improve gas mileage, and I decided to try them out. I got my car serviced, put in some of that high-octane fuel that is supposed to clean up the air intakes, and even installed an air intake booster. It did help me with how to improve gas mileage, but not enough. Then I tried defensive driving.

I knew nothing about how to improve gas mileage until I tried the defensive driving. I would go the speed limit, maintaining a constant speed on the highways whenever possible. I would cut city driving to a minimum and walk for small local trips instead of driving. It made such an tremendous difference in how much gas I was using that I couldn’t believe it. I had found the holy Grail of how to improve gas mileage, and it was so obvious. Don’t get me wrong – if I had enough money to buy a Hybrid car, I would. Since I don’t, however, defensive driving is the next key to how to improve gas mileage. Now that I found that out, I think I will try some of those gadgets that my cousin is always talking about. They look like they could take me up a few miles per gallon!

Fuel economy mileage is more important than ever before, and it is only going to get more important. People put all kinds of money into how to improve gas mileage, buying every device that they can get their hands on. My cousin is like this. He is a notorious tinkerer, spending hour upon hour on his car every weekend. Although I am sure that some of the products that he uses work, some of them don’t. Improving gas mileage is as much an art as a science as far as I am concerned. Although there are all kinds of gizmos you can use to improve your gas mileage, it is difficult to know which ones work and which ones don’t. If you want to get better gas mileage, you had better start with your driving.

Renewable Energy Resources

July 22, 2008 By: admin Category: better future No Comments →

One of the best renewable energy resources today is wind power. This is something that was first used a long time ago to produce energy, and is now being renewed in present day efforts. Some states, like New York, are putting these wind powered turbines up all over the place in hopes of generating a good amount of power. These are not yet able to produce all the power that we need, and may never, but they are clean and easy. Wind is most definitely one of the best renewable energy resources. Wind is free, even if the turbines are not.

There has been a lot of talk about finding new energy sources, and a lot of effort put into finding ways to use older ideas in a better way. We have to worry about what we are doing to the planet as well as what high energy costs are doing to the economies of the strongest countries on the planet. Waste is something we are also concerned with, and there are some renewable energy resources that can cut down on this, if not completely eliminate the problem. What faces us today is figuring out which ones work the best and which are going to cost the least.

There are even more renewable energy resources out there that are being tested and considered for ways to fuel vehicles and to power homes and businesses. One of these is water and steam power, which is something that we used to power trains and cars in the past. Solar power is also another good alternative. The trick is to find a way to use these with little impact on the environment. There are going to be other renewable energy resources that come about soon, making this an exciting time in the history of the world. Things could be changing rapidly, and that will certainly be something amazing to witness.

Another of the renewable energy resources that we are working on in present time is fuel made from corn. This is something that can be produced over and over again, but some do worry about the cost to the economy. Corn has been used for food for a very long time, and using it for fuel can put a strain on the amount that we can produce. As a result, we are finding it to be a cleaner fuel and power alternative, but there are shortages that are going to affect, if they are not already, the costs of some of the foods we buy in the stores.

Global (World) Poverty Facts, Get Involved!

May 06, 2008 By: admin Category: better future, educational resource No Comments →

Get involved!

A lot of people throw money at these issues, but they never go away. The key is to have as many people as possible get involved. The more people who are the confronting issues head-on, lending their time to combat social ills, the faster the social ills will be addressed. You and me can make a difference, but we have to act now. Get involved. It will make you feel good, and you will be making a difference.

No one is doing it, however…

The saddest thing about it is that world poverty is something we could prevent. There are enough resources in the world to make a big dent in global poverty, or even eliminate it within a decade. No one is doing it, however. We would rather spend money on defense, researching new technology, and entertainment. That is what you and me have to step in and take up the slack. Giving money to charitable organizations is one of the most important things that we can do to help global poverty. It is, however, not the only thing.

Environment under control…

Environmental issues have really been upstaging global poverty in recent years, but they are closely linked. When people are impoverished, they cannot afford birth control, which causes the population to increase more. This leads to even worse world overpopulation which eventually leads to more economic troubles. Poor countries also can not afford the same level of sanitation, running dirtier power plants, polluting the rivers more, deforesting more, and in general being forced to put a significant mark on the global environment. If we are going to get our environment under control, we also have to get the forces of poverty under control. To do that, we have to all work together.

We are all responsible for combating global poverty…

Sometimes, it can be difficult to remember how bad global poverty is. Even poverty in the US escapes our attention much of the time. After all, most of us have a lot to do. You go about your life, going to your job 40 hours or more a week, relaxing as much as you can on the weekends and after work, and trying to raise a family. With all of that on you plate, the global war on property can seem pretty remote from you. Yet it is important to remember that we are all responsible for combating global poverty. Millions and millions are impoverished all over the world, through no fault of their own. Although it may not immediately affect us, one day it will.

Hurricane Catrina, Just Small Part Of Inconvinient Truth!

April 28, 2008 By: admin Category: better future, education, educational resource, useful information No Comments →

It was upgraded to tropical storm status early on August 24th, and became a hurricane on the 25th…

The fourth major hurricane of the 2005 hurricane season, and the first to reach a category 5 status (using the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale), hurricane Katrina began its life as a tropical low pressure system over the Bahamas on August 23rd. It was upgraded to tropical storm status early on August 24th, and became a hurricane on the 25th. Also on the 25th, it made a landfall on the southwestern Florida coast. It weakened back into a tropical storm before moving back over the gulf and regaining its hurricane strength. It was then predicted to continued northward and eventually hit the Florida panhandle, but rather it moved westward and eventually landed right over New Orleans. Before it landed, it rapidly intensified into a category five hurricane, causing sustained winds of 175 miles per hour, and gusts reaching over 215 miles per hour

Deadliest Hurricane America has ever seen… what caused it?

So far, Hurricane Katrina was the third most deadly hurricane the United States has ever witnessed, the first being the Galveston Hurricane in 1900, and second being the Okeechobee Hurricane of 1928. The official death toll has reached 1400 lives, with many thousands more still missing. When the toll is finally complete, Katrina may turn out to have been the deadliest Hurricane America has ever seen. Beyond the death count, the damage done to property by Katrina is certainly the worst ever caused by a hurricane; practically the entire city of New Orleans was destroyed in its wake.

Most destructive hurricane…Hurricane Katrina Casualties

For this reason, hurricane Katrina has earned its title of third most destructive hurricane seen by America, even though it was only the third most powerful storm of the season. Hurricane Katrina waned as it traveled over the coast of Louisiana and Mississippi, but not before causing considerable damage to several other settlements in the region, including Jackson, Mississippi. Even after being downgraded to a depression, it caused major rains throughout its travel north all the way up to Quebec, Canada, before finally being absorbed.

Flooding and wind damage…

When it landed on August 29th, it was downgraded to a category four hurricane, but nonetheless caused an enormous amount of damage. Katrina itself passed over New Orleans with the usual flooding and wind damage caused by hurricanes. The majority of the damage and deaths caused were a result of New Orleans’s levee bursting after the storm had passed. The city, being below sea level, was then flooded by water from the ocean, causing irreparable damage to nearly 80 percent of the cities structures and forcing all of its surviving occupants to relocate.

Build Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder!

March 25, 2008 By: admin Category: better future, free advice, fun and entertainment, hobby land No Comments →

Most gardening or hardware stores will have different feeders…

The first thing you are likely to notice when you go shopping for one of these for your backyard is how wide the selection is. This is particularly true in the spring and summer months when everyone is out buying outdoor accessories for their homes. Most gardening or hardware stores will have different feeders including a squirrel proof bird feeder or two to choose from. The type you buy will depend on several factors including price and where you will be mounting or hanging it.

Having a feeder filled with seeds is wonderful for the area birds…

Enjoying the wonder of nature is something most of us don’t do enough of. If you are fortunate enough to live in an area where birds, chipmunks and squirrels abound, it’s lovely to sit out in the backyard and just absorb all that nature has to offer by watching the wildlife. Having a feeder filled with seeds is wonderful for the area birds, but can become a haven for the squirrels that frequent the neighborhood. With a squirrel proof bird feeder you can provide feed for the birds without having to worry about the squirrels interfering.

Don’t be surprised if neighbors ask where you got it…

Once you’ve taken on the task and completed one for your own backyard don’t be surprised if neighbors or visitors ask where you got the squirrel proof bird feeder. It’s rare for a skilled handyman not to have compliments on his or her work. You may even find yourself building a feeder for others as well.

Making a squirrel proof bird feeder is a bit of a challenge…

Home handymen might want to take on a project like this. Building small items is a fun and interesting hobby for both men and women and after a long week in an office, getting the chance to make something with their own hands is very rewarding and relaxing. Making a squirrel proof bird feeder is a bit of a challenge but if you’ve got the skill and the patience, it most certainly can be done.

Don’t worry about them going hungry….

Regardless of where you do put it be prepared to watch the squirrels try with all their might to get to the feed. They are persistent little creatures and it will take them awhile before they finally realize that it’s a futile endeavor. Don’t worry about them going hungry though because those resourceful little animals always find something to eat.

Hanging it from a tree might be the best idea…

Mounting them isn’t difficult at all. You first must decide on a spot to put the feeder. Depending on the size and shape of it, hanging it from a tree might be the best idea. Others find it better if they attach the squirrel proof bird feeder to the fence. Just be sure you pick a spot that is easily accessible for the birds.

Recycling…. Help The Environment!

March 16, 2008 By: admin Category: better future, educational resource, free advice, useful information No Comments →

There are many different ways to make a difference in the future! How does recycling help the environment?

Of course, although helping the environment by recycling is popular, there are many other ways to make a difference in the future of the earth. As a matter of fact, many people think that environmental recycling isn’t the most important activity in stopping global environmental catastrophe. They say that, although you can help the environment by recycling, you can help it even more by turning down the heat, turning off the lights when you leave a room, cutting down your commute and using alternative forms of transportation. Recycling is a great first step because it is easy, but you should probably try to go further. Many of these other activities can make a huge difference in cutting down on your carbon footprint.

Many people still don’t know how a where to recycle!

Although waste management recycling is a popular topic in many progressive cities in the country, many people don’t know the most basic recycling facts. For a long time, I have wanted to help the environment by recycling, but I didn’t even know what I could recycle and what I couldn’t. It turns out that a lot more can be recycled than I had assumed. Many of the plastic packages that I had assumed were beyond hope can actually be taken if you leave them at the curbside. In other cases, the glossy paper that I thought could be recycled couldn’t in my particular district. It varies from place to place, so if you really want to help the environment by recycling, make sure that you know what is going on where you live.

Buy food from grown by your local farmers!

Buying food grown by local farmers is a much better way to do it than relying on food going overseas. Although many areas can’t support a completely local agriculture, you certainly can make things better. It is all about taking the time to make the changes one by one. When we work together we can create a better tomorrow.

You can help even more by cutting down on your fossil fuel consumption!

One of the best things you can do to make the earth cleaner, greener, and Healthier, is to buy locally grown produce. Although you can help the environment by recycling, you can help even more by cutting down on your fossil fuel consumption. Food that is grown in other countries takes a tremendous amount of energy to get over here. That energy, of course, comes from combustible And nonrenewable fuel. Even biodiesel isn’t very good for the air. Basically, when you burn something to get around, you cause environmental damage.

The Cause Of Global Warming Facts!

March 14, 2008 By: admin Category: better future, educational resource, useful information No Comments →

Now is the time to do something about the global problem!

Whatever the cause of global warming, it is about time to do something about it. The problem is that there are so many problems that individual actions can seem ineffective. There are a lot of small things you can do to counteract the causes of global warming. You can cut down on your consumption, turn off the lights when you leave your room, turn down the heat, weatherproof your house better, and drive less. Still, there is considerable debate about whether we can do enough as individuals. How much do these small changes really add up to?

We are still uncertain about the cause of global warming!

Although the effects of global warming are nowadays felt everywhere, there is still some uncertainty about the cause. Don’t get me wrong – many of the main culprits are well understood. Burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests, increasing methane production through breeding too many cattle – all of these contribute to global climate change. Nonetheless, the verdict is still not in asked to what is the main cause and how much of a role each factor plays.

Do something! There are many things that we can do to prevent global warming!

There are many different things you can do in your community to battle the cause of global warming. You can organize for better community recycling programs, better public transportation, and incentives to encourage businesses and consumers to use more environmentally friendly practices. Writing letters on your own can do a little bit, but organizing with other people to express a coherent political platform can do much more. It is the best way, in fact, to really get your voice heard by local, state, and national politicians. If you show them that the cause of global warming is of concern to you, they will listen and they will do something about it. Together, we can all do something to avert the coming environmental catastrophe.

We have to make a decision all together!

Nowadays, more and more people believe that we have to address the cause of global warming as a culture and as a world. Our global environment affects all of us, and together we have to make the decision to act in a way that will safeguard it for future generations. More and more people are joining political action groups, organizing with other activists to help defeat environmental climate change. It is not too late to do something about it, but it is getting to that crucial hour. If we don’t all work together to fight the causes of global warming, who knows how things will look a decade down the line.
